Change the litter every day, and also you can purchase an inexpensive air purifier/ionizer at walmart, these things do a remarkable job to clean the air of smells.
try changing the litter brand, i like tidy cats odor lock, if that doesn't work try changing his food. you can always try sprikling a little baking soda on the litter, or getting a covered or automatically cleaning litter box
Slowly(over a week) change his food to a high qulity brand where the first ingredent is chicken(not corn or by-product crap). Then get a good scented cat litter and tell your wife to scoop the poop daily!
scoop out the cat's litter after he goes. At one time I had 3 indoor cats in a very small apt. and my friends were always amazed because you couldn't smell the litterbox and it was centrally located, but I used to scoop it out every time the cats would use it.
Cat food and litter are the problem. We use Iams cat food and Fresh step clumping cat litter.


The pee doesnt smell as strong with what we use.


We have two cats and we rarely if ever smell the litter box throughout the apartment. When people come over they always ask what we use because our cats dont smell.

We bought a litter maid. The thing rakes the litter %26amp; dumps it into a sealed pan. The initial cost may seem like a lot (we paid 99.99 for ours.) But the savings in wasted litter actually makes it worthwhile. We only use 40pounds of litter every 3 months now. Add that to the fact that you absolutely cannot not smell it %26amp; it was definitely worth it to us,
Get rid of the cat
I have four house cats that do not go outside and believe me, I feel like I am changing the litter constantly to avoid the smell, but the more often I clean the box, the better it smells. If you have the option, put the box in a bathroom, laundry room or utility room not so central to the first floor or if possible in a cellar or basement. If this is not an option, there are a few things to help, buy a better litter that clumps and has odor locking control (it costs more but it saves more in the long run) if the litter clumps hard you can remove the urine right away and that helps a lot with the smell. You can buy in expensive cat pans with lids that hide the mess a little better, and you can not feed cats wet food, they say that makes their waste smell slightly less offensive. If you clean the pan twice a day the smell will not linger. Make sure that the cat is not tracking litter all over the house and not peeing outside the box. If the box is emptied, and the litter refreshed often not just scooped, the smell will improve especially if the pan itself is scooped and liners are used. Ask your wife nicely to better maintain her cats litter box and the smell won't be as bad.
Clean it!!!!
First, use a very good quality litter. Go to your local pet store (NOT A CHAIN) and take their advice as to litter. Use a deodorizer powder as well. Finally, clean it once or even twice a day. That should help.

Some things that help eliminate odor: A cat litter box that is enclosed, has a door so a cat can push into it and out of it, Kitty Litter, like ';Fresh Step'; that help eliminate odor. Also, what you feed your cat can cause a ranker smell. Nutro has some excellent cat food in packets. Well balanced and not too strong.


I am sure other brands have similar foods. Make sure your cat has access to water at all times.


Another thing that could help is Litter box liners. Instead of odor getting into the box itself, you remove the liner when the litter is ready to be changed. It makes cleaning easier and helps eliminate odors. Happy breathing!
I would try changing what its eating, ';smelly cat'; from the t.v. show FRIENDS comes to mind. LOL

First, I would make sure you clean the litter box daily. Also, I have a covered litter box that has filters at the top (really cheap at Target or something) The filters should be changed every 3 months...I did not know this at first. I recently changed my filters and the smell has been more bearable. Also, I use Fresh Step scoopable cat litter...seems to work good. AND, I also put the Arm and Hammer cat litter stuff in with it...that has helped the most.
We used crsytal type litter for a long time because it dehydrates the lovely gifts our cats leave us. Some brands get quite expensive so we switched to clumping litter. We try to scoop twice a day, but get it at least once.





If you have multiple cats, it is recommended that you use one box for each cat plus one extra.





Our cats really stink when they eat seafood based foods, so we have eliminated those from our shopping list.

Speaking from experience here. I have 5 cats in a one story house and I never, ever smell the cat littler boxes (I have two) Scoop them daily first off. Take the used litter outside. Literally wash the litter boxes out with soap and water once a month (the plastic boxes can absorb odors) it helps to have a covered box. I have used every brand of cat litter out there and the one that works best for my 5 cats is Tidy Cats brand scoopable cat litter. The Antimicrobial kind (it has a yellow and green label) there is also immediate odor control and long lasting odor control. I find the antimicrobial works the best. And also it is beneficial to sprinkle some Arm and Hammer brand or Tidy Cats brand litter deodorizer into the freshly scooped litter. Good luck to you because I KNOW how horrible it can smell. Im just glad I found the fix for my male cats. oh, and a ferret too!
Try changing the brand of cat food it eats. Some cats have a sensitive digestive system. I had one cat that I had to change food brands 2 times until I found a food that would not make the cat's waste smell. I just bought enough of the new brand to last a few days. It didn't take long to smell better. Good luck.
Arm and Hammer cat litter. Scoop it EVERY DAY and take the bag of cat poop to the outside garbage can ASAP.
Clean the box everyday, buy clumping absorbing deodorizing litter, get better quality cat food, take the cat to the vet to be sure it's not a medical problem.
Good quality diet will produce stool with less odor. But the truth is, a clean litter box doesn't smell. Use a scoopable litter and clean at least once a day.

I use ';Tidy Cat'; and Natural Magic Odor Absorbing Gel'; deodorizer lasts up to 3 months.
Cat food is available to address this problem, Inside Cat, etc. at Petsmart or even Walmart. Hope it helps or you will need a divorce lawyer to survive I guess.

Perhaps you could share in the duties of daily litter removal and adding fresh litter. Pretty simple. Also, the super absorbant litter makes the job pretty easy! Don't blame the kitty. He's going where he is supposed to.
